Greta Dawson
I am the parent of Alex Mitchell and for most of his life I have been promoting his rights in education and for the lifestyle and care that he needs. Along with my friends, colleagues and supporters I am committed to inclusion and community, and for the right of Alex and those like him to continue to live in, contribute to and benefit from Todmorden.
I know that Alex benefits greatly from a healthy diet and lifestyle and he chooses to do activities which demand he is fit and able. He is also entitled to have the choice to live with other young people. Does this sound familiar to you? As parents and carers many of us are advocating for the future of our young people, and we want to establish them in an environment where they can develop and flourish.
Alex Mitchell
Alex is a young man of 22 years who has Down Syndrome and very little language. He is a very cheerful person and likes to be among other friendly people. He volunteers with Pennnine Lancashire Community Farm and Incredible Edible Todmorden, with help from his P.A.
Alex enjoys walking in the hills, having friends around him, playing ball and listening to music. He enjoys his food and relies on the healthy (plant-based, no processed sugar,) food he eats to give him the energy and enthusiasm for the lifestyle he chooses.
Jess Fowle
I am Jess and I first met Greta when she and I went to ante-natal classes together. Flash forward twenty-two years and we are still firm friends and collaborators.
I am the Co-Founder and Creative Director of a TV production company and a proud resident of the beautiful Calder Valley.
I volunteer with Living Kindness to help engage with prospective residents and their families and to ensure Living Kindness is shouting loudly about the fantastic community it is going to create.
I have known Alex all his life and he is very important friend to me and my family. I believe that Alex – and young people like him – have a big part to play in our community and I am committed to helping create a warm and supportive living environment to give the best chance of making this happen.
